Famous Foods in Rome
Italian food is one of my favorite cultural dishes, so I was excited to get a real taste of Italian culture. One food that I found particularly different from home was the pizza. American pizza usually has thick crust, overbearing tomato sauce and extra cheese. Italian pizza, however, differed from the taste of the American dish. The pizza featured above had a thin crunchy, white crust. The pizza was lightly covered with tomato sauce and topped with a thin layer of cheese. Added mozzarella di bufala Campana made from milk from water buffalos was placed on top to give the Italian dish a rich taste. After baking the pizza in a stone brick oven, the pizza is just about ready to be served. A basil leaf was placed on top giving the pizza a little bit of flavor for the finishing touch. The pizza tasted significantly lighter than a Chicago-style pizza or a Dominos pizza from home. I loved the basil leaf and thought that it gave the pizza its final touch in flavor. The pizza in Rome tasted significantly different from any type of pizza I have ever tasted at home.
Below I included a slideshow of other Italian foods I tasted in Rome.
